Client Restoration Project

The Sagamore Resort

Bolton Landing, NY

375 rooms, event center, restored in 3½ weeks.

Member of Historic Hotels of America.

Northern Lights Restoration completed our on-site furniture restoration services in all 375 guest accommodations across this historic resort, spanning the main hotel’s 137 rooms (including 54 suites) and all the rustic shoreline lodges and homes. We also refinished all the furniture within the main hotel lobby, as well as the event center’s lobby and conference room doors. All the above was completed in 3.5 weeks while the property was in full operation and at 8% the cost of replacement.

On its own 70-acre Green Island in Lake George, within the Adirondack Mountains, lies the award-winning Sagamore Resort, part of the Opal Collection and a Conde Nast Traveler favorite, with a rich history dating to 1883. Honoring the region’s Native American heritage, the hotel’s name comes from “sagamore,” meaning “respected chief,” a direct reference to The Last of the Mohicans. Accessible by bridge and boat, the resort was twice rebuilt after fires in 1893 and 1914. The original 1883 Queen Anne-style hotel was nearly identically reconstructed in 1894, then replaced in 1923 with a Colonial Revival design, expanded to its current size by 1930.

Since 2014, Northern Lights Restoration has been the preferred restoration vendor to Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide. They have made a visible impact on our member hotels across the country, ranging from intricate armoires in the Garberville treasure Benbow Inn (1926), to the famous Grand Staircase of the Georgian landmark Jekyll Island Club Hotel (1887), to the 98 guestrooms and Tavern on the Green at the Salem staple, the Hawthorne Hotel (1925). In each instance, we have seen our hotels embracing this important element of preservation by using the skills of Northern Lights Restoration to extend the life of their historic pieces.

We are happy to recommend Bob Stephens and his team at Northern Lights Restoration to anyone considering architectural woodwork restoration/ historic preservation project.
