Client Restoration Project

The Omni Homestead Resort

Hot Springs, VA

400 guestrooms, Grand Hall and common areas, multiphase restoration project.

Member of Historic Hotels of America.

Starting in October 2021, The Omni Homestead Resort undertook a two-year, $170 million complete renovation of the resort and its spring houses. Northern Lights Restoration was invited to contribute, completing work across nearly 400 guestrooms, the Grand Hall and common area furnishings, and guestroom thresholds during a multi-phase project.

The Omni Homestead Resort, America’s oldest resort, opened in 1766, a full decade before the nation’s founding. Tucked away in the Allegheny Mountains, the area’s natural hot and warm springs, believed to possess medicinal properties, have attracted visitors for millennia. Captain Thomas Bullitt founded the first 18-room hotel in 1766 after noting the springs while surveying in the French and Indian War. The resort saw significant redevelopment when M.E. Ingalls, with J.P. Morgan, purchased it in 1881 to transform it into a full resort. Throughout its rich history, the resort has welcomed numerous U.S. Presidents, including Thomas Jefferson, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan.

Since 2014, Northern Lights Restoration has been the preferred restoration vendor to Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide. They have made a visible impact on our member hotels across the country, ranging from intricate armoires in the Garberville treasure Benbow Inn (1926), to the famous Grand Staircase of the Georgian landmark Jekyll Island Club Hotel (1887), to the 98 guestrooms and Tavern on the Green at the Salem staple, the Hawthorne Hotel (1925). In each instance, we have seen our hotels embracing this important element of preservation by using the skills of Northern Lights Restoration to extend the life of their historic pieces.

We are happy to recommend Bob Stephens and his team at Northern Lights Restoration to anyone considering architectural woodwork restoration/ historic preservation project.
