John Rutledge House

Charleston, SC

Refinished historic and antique furnishings for this 1763 National Historic Landmark.

Member of Historic Hotels of America.

The John Rutledge House is a member of Historic Hotels of America and with Northern Lights Restoration’s Preferred Provider status with Historic Hotels of America Members, we were contracted to refinish a multitude of historic and antique furnishings within this Historic Boutique Inn. From antique armoires and poster bed frames to historic side tables and chest of drawers, we completed all while the Inn was in full operation. We also refinished the historic front entry double doors.

The John Rutledge House was constructed in 1763 for his wife, Elizabeth Grimke as a wedding present. The home was a center for political life during John Rutledge’s career as a signer of the U. S. Constitution and South Carolina’s first governor and also was visited by George Washington in 1791. The home is listed on the National Historic Landmark and opened as John Rutledge House Inn in 1989.

Bob and his crew were such a pleasure to work with at all 5 of our properties. Bob is professional and very aware that his presence while working on property should be unobtrusive to the staff and guests. Many business operators know that bringing in contractors can be a headache to the day-to-day operation.

We never really knew when he was working until we saw the beautifully restored finished product. Bob brought life back to our antique and reproduction pieces. He aims to please and takes great pride in his work and attention to detail.
